The American Psychological Association (APA) has recently launched
PsycSCAN=AE: Psychopharmacology - a new database of psychopharmacology
research.
The SCAN is a new Web-based solution for health professionals who need
access to the latest research in experimental and clinical
psychopharmacology. A subset of APA's PsycINFO=AE database, PsycSCAN:
Psychopharmacology contains abstracts of journal articles, books, book
chapters, and technical reports from 1972 to the present. Annual
subscriptions that include monthly updates are available to APA members,
non-members, and institutions.
PsycSCAN: Psychopharmacology is designed to meet the information needs of
researchers and practitioners whose work involves the psychological aspects
of therapeutic drugs or psychoactive substances. Abstracts in PsycSCAN:
Psychopharmacology cover the literature on how chemicals and substances
affect the brain and behavior. In addition, drug-related behavioral issues
include
* Psychological aspects of drug therapy for physical or medical disorders
* Experimental research on substances not yet approved for clinical use
* Animal studies and models related to psychopharmacology
* Herbal supplements and alternative therapies
* Patient compliance issues
* Drug discontinuation issues
* Drug interactions and drug-food interactions
* Drug side effects
* Neurological or behavioral effects of non-therapeutic substances such as
foods and toxins
PsycSCAN: Psychopharmacology also covers drug-related professional issues,
such as prescription privilege; pharmacist-patient communication;
