Does anyone know of any computer-simulation projects in pharmacy or
medicine that let Pharmacists or MDs practice drug therapies? Does anyone
know of references about the use of simulations in health-disciplines in
general?
Thanks!

I have made a series of simulators in Excel for modeling the
pharmacokinetics of depot antipsychotics. I have a simililar spreadsheet
for phenytoin. They are quite easy to build once you think of it.
I was considering making the simulatory available on our WWW site. Would
this be worthwhile?

Yes, Steve, making anything educational available on the WWW is
worthwhile! At Dalhousie we are developing a PBL curriculum in
pharmacy, to be launched in September 1997. We are investigating all
learning resources that would be suitable for student-centered
learning, including internet and multimedia resources. We will be
purchasing some multimedia software, but we are also keeping our eyes
open for simpler materials such as yours sounds.

There are several comercially available simulation programs. ACSL, RSSL,
mathcad, winnonlin and others that can be used in pharmacotherapeutics. We
routinely used them in our courses. You can also use EXCEL. However, it is
not as powerful as ACSL or other object oriented programs.
