PHAR 7632 Homework #1 2001

One Question - Multiple Parts

Due - 8th Feb 2001 (To be graded)
  1. Install Boomer
  2. Use Boomer to Calculate ten Cp versus Time values
  3. Calculate two Cp versus Time values using a calculator
  4. Plot the ten Data Values on Linear and Semi-log Graph Paper

a. Install Boomer

If you have your own computer with Internet Access:

If you have your own computer without Internet Access:

If you don't have your own computer:

If you have a problem ask friends, fellow students, campus help desk, or class instructor

b. Use Boomer to Calculate ten Cp versus Time values

Calculate concentrations as Cp = (Dose/V) x exp-kel x t (Eq 1)

where Dose = 200 mg, V = 57 L, and kel = 0.12 hr-1,thus: (Dose/V) = 3.51 mg/L

at time 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 12 hours

Start Boomer (usually by double clicking on the Boomer icon - in the DOS or Command window you will need to navigate to the 'folder' containing Boomer and type the program name to start it)

Enter 0 (return) <- 0 chooses Data entry from the keyboard and (Return) enter the value into the program
Continue by entering (you only need to enter the information in columns 1 through 30). Press RETURN after each choice:

This should result in a file HW0101.OUT

Open and print this file in your 'favorite' text/word processor using a monospace font. This is item 1 to be turned in for credit.

c. Calculate two Cp versus Time values using a calculator

Using Eq 1 and the values above calculate Cp at 3 and 9 hours using a calculator. Show your working and answers. This is item 2 to be turned in for credit.

d. Plot the ten Data Values on Linear and Semi-log Graph Paper

Plot the 10 data points on linear and semi-log graph paper. These are items 3 and 4 to be turned in for credit.
