PHAR 7632 Homework #1 2001
One Question - Multiple Parts
Due - 8th Feb 2001 (To be graded)
- Install Boomer
- Use Boomer to Calculate ten Cp versus Time values
- Calculate two Cp versus Time values using a calculator
- Plot the ten Data Values on Linear and Semi-log Graph Paper
a. Install Boomer
If you have your own computer with Internet Access:
- Connect to the Internet
- Start your Browser of Choice
- Go to location http://www.boomer.org/
- Select the most recent Macintosh or Windows version of Boomer and click on the link
- If your Browser is configured properly you should now have a copy of Boomer on your hard drive
If you have your own computer without Internet Access:
- Find a computer on campus which is connected to the Internet (probably in the student center)
- Connect to the Internet
- Start your Browser of Choice
- Go to location http://www.boomer.org/
- Select the most recent Macintosh or Windows version of Boomer and click on the link
- If your Browser is configured properly you should now have a copy of Boomer on the hard drive
- Copy the application file Boomer to your floppy (maybe two) and copy it from the floppy to the hard drive on your own computer
If you don't have your own computer:
- Find a suitable computer on campus which is connected to the Internet (probably in the library or the student center)
Library
- Library personal have placed Boomer on a number of computers in the Library computer laboratory
- Ask or find a suitable computer with Boomer preinstalled
Student Center
- Boomer may already be installed on your selected computer; if so skip the following download instructions
- Connect to the Internet
- Start your Browser of Choice
- Go to location http://www.boomer.org/
- Select the most recent Macintosh or Windows version of Boomer and click on the link
- If your Browser is configured properly you should now have a copy of Boomer on the hard drive
If you have a problem ask friends, fellow students, campus help desk, or class instructor
b. Use Boomer to Calculate ten Cp versus Time values
Calculate concentrations as Cp = (Dose/V) x exp-kel x t (Eq 1)
where Dose = 200 mg, V = 57 L, and kel = 0.12 hr-1,thus: (Dose/V) = 3.51 mg/L
at time 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 12 hours
Start Boomer (usually by double clicking on the Boomer icon - in the DOS or Command window you will need to navigate to the 'folder' containing Boomer and type the program name to start it)
Enter 0 (return) <- 0 chooses Data entry from the keyboard and (Return) enter the value into the program
Continue by entering (you only need to enter the information in columns 1 through 30). Press RETURN after each choice:
1 2 3 4 5 <- don't enter this line

This should result in a file HW0101.OUT
Open and print this file in your 'favorite' text/word processor using a monospace font. This is item 1 to be turned in for credit.
c. Calculate two Cp versus Time values using a calculator
Using Eq 1 and the values above calculate Cp at 3 and 9 hours using a calculator. Show your working and answers. This is item 2 to be turned in for credit.
d. Plot the ten Data Values on Linear and Semi-log Graph Paper
Plot the 10 data points on linear and semi-log graph paper. These are items 3 and 4 to be turned in for credit.
