Not exactly a PK question:
Our hospital has to prepare a dose of docetaxel
for someone living in another community. After
preparation here it will be couriered for
administration at the hospital in her community.
We have to know if this is feasible, ie, is
docetaxel - once prepared in a non-PVC bag -
stable (eg, no adsorption/degradation/etc) long
enough so that we can prepare the dose and ship
it.
The manufacturer's monograph has no information.
The only thing I could find is this abstract from
MEDLINE:
Pharm World Sci 1999 Jun;21(3):137-41
Physico-chemical stability of docetaxel premix solution and docetaxel
infusion solutions in PVC bags and polyolefine containers. Thiesen J,
Kramer I
From the abstract: the prepared dose in solution should
be good for four weeks.
Is anyone familiar with this article? Anyone have any
other info about docetaxel stability - other than what's
in the official monograph?
Thanks.

I'll only say this once. 1999 is NOT the
last year of the 20th century.

Randy:
Suggest you contact Prof VJ Stella (stella.at.ukans.edu) at the
University of Kansas. When I was there in the mid-80's they were
doing stability studies on taxol, including some in bags. Possibly
their results could be extrapolated to docetaxel
